Catanzaro province in Calabria and the southern Diano valley were flooded following a heavy downpour, while a mudslide on the Sicilian coast partially buried several homes near Messina, injuring one person, media sources reported on March 10th.

In central Italy, heavy snow left several hundred motorists trapped overnight on a highway between Rome and L'Aquila. Bologna airport was closed until further notice, while roads were blocked and schools closed in the central Marche region. Venice was covered in snow, as high winds took down trees and blew tiles off roofs in the northwestern Liguria region.

Meanwhile, mountain villages on the French island of Corsica were covered in snow and more than 6,000 homes remained without power on March 10th.
